Grant Cambridge and Capital Group Associates Give Back to Value Schools Seniors

HS Seniors at Capital Group

For the second year in a row, Grant Cambridge and his colleagues at Capital Group opened their doors to seniors from Central City Value and University Prep Value High Schools for a transformative college essay workshop.

The day began with a tour of Capital Group’s offices and its dynamic stock trading center, where students observed real-time trading and learned how financial markets operate. Grant then shared a short, motivational video on the power of self-esteem and the importance of standing out in the college admissions process.

During lunch, each student was paired one-on-one with a Capital Group associate for personalized coaching on their college essay drafts. These sessions helped students refine their writing, reflect deeply on their personal journeys, and build confidence in their unique voices.

Students' Reflections

“Today I learned that applying to universities isn’t supposed to be easy—it’s a process that challenges you to think critically. When writing my essay, I realized I need to show what makes me unique and draw readers in. My Capital Group mentor encouraged me not to shy away from the embarrassing or difficult moments in my life, but to embrace them—they help express who I really am.”

“During my time with my Capital Group mentor, I learned that life is full of surprises, even when you have a plan. I want to major in architecture, but this experience taught me to keep an open mindset—to explore new classes and opportunities in college. It’s never bad to try something new.”

Gratitude

Our students are deeply grateful to Grant Cambridge and his Capital Group colleagues, whose guidance and encouragement inspired them to write with confidence and purpose as they prepare their college essays.

We are grateful to Vince Gonzales, Chair of the Value Schools Board, and James Bray and Amanda Sweeney, former Foundation Board Members, for joining Grant’s team to support our seniors. Their presence and mentorship were deeply appreciated.

A heartfelt thank-you also goes to our dedicated counselors—Mr. Bryant, Ms. Marroquin, Ms. Lima, and Ms. Sagrero from Central City and University Prep—and to Caroline Kleger from Capital Group, whose coordination and care made this event possible.

Together, we are helping our students take confident steps toward college and beyond.

We are here to serve,
